Pathways

It's the moment to choose your Pathway

Whether you are a new member or want to explore other benefits of the Toastmasters International training programme, here is a quick review of the benefits of Pathways and the 11 options available so you can select the one that best suits your interests.

Since March 20th 2018 we have available in our division the new educational program Pathways. This program replaces the traditional one based on communication tracks (Competent Communicator, Advanced Communicator Bronze, ...) and leadership (Competent Leadership, Advanced Leadership Bronze, ...). It is a modernized version, much more specialized from the beginning, which combines communication and leadership and with much online material.

See how Pathways works in the following educational video made by Valencia’s VPE Javier Tomás:

And two additional videos to learn how to navigate the Pathways website:

These are some comments and recommendations related to the adoption of Pathways.

Pathways vs Traditional educational program:

  • For new members as of March 20, it is mandatory that they start in the Pathways system
  • For members who were already registered, they can choose one of the 10 different Pathways without cost, although they have until the middle of 2020 to finish the traditional program if they wish.
  • I recommend that in any case choose a Pathway that interests you so that you can see how it is structured. Choosing it does not imply that you have to start applying it immediately.
  • It can also be useful to know the structure of a Pathway to be able to correctly advise mentees who are going to use this new program (although they will not necessarily use the same Pathways as you, the structure will be similar)

Pathway selection:

  • For the choice of the Pathways, you have on the Toastmasters.org website an assessment at Choose your path that will recommend among the 10 different Pathways available those that can be most appropriate for you.
  • This document describes very well the process of selecting and accessing Pathways documentation: Pathways Essentials
  • Anyway the assessment suggests Pathways suitable for you but you can always choose any one of the 10 available.
  • If you use online material the 10 Pathways are available in all languages.
  • If printed material is desired there are only 5 Pathways available in English and 2 in Spanish.
  • The printed material has an additional cost of $25 plus shipping costs for each Pathway. If you choose the online version there is always the option to print the material from the Base Camp.
  • There is a Pathway included in your quota. If you want more you can request them at a cost of $20 per additional Pathway.
  • When choosing a Pathway there are 30 days to change it without cost, except if you have requested to receive the printed documentation in which case it is not reimbursable.
  • The information offered by the assessment can be somewhat limited, especially considering that you are probably going to dedicate a couple of years to work it.
  • To help in the decision it can be interesting to see the type of projects that each Pathway includes. The following document details the projects of each Pathway: Pathways Paths and Projects Catalog
  • To facilitate the comparison, take a look at this summary of the previous document where you can see the contents of each Pathway in parallel:  Pathways side-by-side comparison

  • You can find many doubts resolved at FAQ
  • And of course for any other question contact the VPE or the President and we will manage it.
