Our Blog  (Zurich Toastmasters)
Blog meeting 20th February 2012

President Marina opened the meeting on time and welcomed our 6 guests together with Clint from Mosquito Hill who told us about the pending new Advanced Toastmaster Club of Zurich. We had a full house again with over 23 members present.   Marina informed the club of the redistricting proposal to be presented at the District Conference in Poznan in May.  District 59 has become too big to administer so it is proposed that it splits into two. The general consensus is that clubs in Switzerland should join the new part which includes Germany and Austria, thereby, keeping the German speakers together and not in the section which includes the romance languages.

This was a unique meeting as both speeches were very advanced, one from 20 - 40 minutes which is a great challenge.  Our wonderful speakers Mahina and Tulia, gave outstanding performances and I have no doubt that the guests and newer members must have been very intimidated as they took us away on journeys both amusing and serious.   Mahima's professional, stimulating and educational words taught us all a lot.  She ran away with best speaker of the night.  Shane had the difficulty of evaluating her and did a wonderful job so he took the best evaluator ribbon.    Table topics were introduced by Mario Christiner who decided to make it more interactive and gave topics to debate  as pro and contra.  The amusing toilet paper topic was enjoyed by all.   Manuel took the ribbon for his confirming that women have the upper hand in the world today.   Allison chose "extemporaenous" as word of the day which was used quite often despite the difficulty of getting our tongue around it - well done Allison. Marina and Shane encourages us all to take roles for our club contest which will take place on 5th March.  Once again a great evening with lots of thoughts to take home.
