Fellow toastmasters,

at the autumn contest we had more than 100 guests at the Divison contest. Let's do it again.
TNT our youngest Club in the Division took over the organisation and they are doing a great job. Please help them and make this event a great success story for all of us.
The categories of "International Speech" and "Evaluation" will be exciting for speakers and audience. We can learn so much from watching and listening.

This time we have Jane Piper delivering a Keynote Speech: "Act first, Think later". Jane is an energetic and entertaining speaker with loads of stories from HR, engineering, education and pharma. Don't miss her speech.

The successful format "Female contest workshop" will happen again. This workshop will now be held in German and English and is for Male and Female speakers. You wonder what this workshop is about?

2 brave speakers will held a 5-7min speech. They will get a Robin Round Type evaluation by the audience.
They will improve their speeches upon the feedback and hold it again. Be curious! It is the fast track line to become a good speaker. During the speakers preparation the audience will get smart tipps and tricks for more confidence on the stage. Tips that are not written in a manual!

There is also a mouth-watering catering waiting for you. A cosy atmosphere to network and connect with others.
The location is also perfect to have a dinner, a chat or a glass of wine after the event. Cause we learnt that you want to network and talk to each other longer.

Check out the agenda

Location and Time: 16th April 13.00-17.00 Uhr, Casa D'Italia, Erismannstrasse 6, Zurich

Please contact me for your interest in roles.

I am looking forward seeing you again and talk to you.

Division E Director 2015-2016

Fellow toastmasters,

What a marvellous event. The Division E contest was awesome. 100 guests and members came to Winterthur to listen to English, German and Dutch speakers and to learn new skills in workshops about storytelling and cross-cultural communication. Toastmaster friends from Lucern, Bern, St. Gallen, Zurich, Holland and Dresden!

The event started off on the right foot. The initial speeches by the Director of this school location was humorous and informative in the same time. The key note speech from Dr. Benedikt Weibel was a treasure and a vivid example of his three main ingredients for a good speech:
know the topic you are talking about, simplicity and passion.

Passion. We have seen this during the entire contest. The humorous speeches gave us a hard time for our risible muscles and the sustainable applauses were very well deserved.
Simplicity was beaten by creativity. We have heard from great stories on the answers to ”Why did the chicken crossed the road?” or “What does luck mean to you?”
You should have seen the smiling faces after the speeches. I am sure all speakers will share their recipes to find ideas as well as their experience to overcome nervosity, what they have learned from it and how it feels to speak in front of a bigger and totally different audience.

It has been proven once more: the multi-lingual contests do work. 15 of 17 clubs of our division were present at this contest. As speakers, as fans and jury etc. It is enriching to see other (speaking) cultures and to exchange knowledge from other clubs.  This time was also special, cause several corporate clubs did attend and I hope their members will soon get the passion to be more involved.
The award for the outstanding toastmaster was given by Jaap Russchenberg, the former district director. He acknowledged Andreas Geiger from UBS for his high engagement his is continuously giving to the UBS clubs.

My special thanks goes to Rhetoric Club Winterthur that organized the event very well so that everything went smooth and Christian Eggenberger who fulfilled his high performance project with this event (As part of the ALS!) It was a great opportunity to learn leadership and project management.
Many thanks to the contest chairs Allison Turner and Rolf Bänziger, Cécile Bastien-Remy, the chief judges Carola Meinl and Daniel Stauffer and all other engaged supporters! Without you this chance would exist for our members!

The winners are

Dutch humorous:     1. Paul Dumont
German humorous: 1. Reto Weilenmann, 2. Nina Schett, 3. Andreas Janisch
English humorous:   1. Manuel Gomez, 2. Angela Saxby Robbins, 3. Markus Lipp

German table topics: 1. Andreas Janish, 2. Kevin Alldis, 3. Reto Weilenmann
English table topics:   1. Manuel Gomez, 2. Hilarie Burke, 3. Markus Lipp

Spread the word about this format and the many chances for leadership and speeches. All speakers had the chance to speak 3times more than other members. Conference chairs had the opportunity to speak in front of a bigger audience. A time to step out of the comfort zone.
Save the date: 16th April is the next Divison E contest!

Warm regards

Yours Ulrike
